NOUN (EXPERT)

Definition:

A noun is a word that functions as the name of a person, place, animal, thing, idea, quality, or concept. It can act as the subject, object, or complement in a sentence.

Classification of Nouns

1. Proper Noun

Specific names of people, places, organizations, or days.

Examples:

Rahul, Bihar, India, Google

2. Common Noun

General names.

Examples:

Student, City, River, Book

3. Collective Noun

Names a collection or group.

Examples:

Team, Army, Jury, Committee

4. Material Noun

Names substances or materials.

Examples:

Wood, Plastic, Silver, Steel

5. Abstract Noun

Names qualities, emotions, states, or ideas.

Examples:

Justice, Courage, Intelligence, Freedom

Functions of Nouns

• Subject:

Rahul plays cricket.

• Object:

She bought a laptop.

• Object of a Preposition:

The keys are on the table.

• Subject Complement:

Rahul is a doctor.

Examples

The teacher praised the students.

Honesty always brings respect.

The committee approved the proposal.
